BEHIND THE SONG: "Undo It"
Since Carrie Underwood’s debut in the world of country music after her victory as the Season Two champ of American Idol, she has turned into a superstar hit-making machine and her current single is just the latest in the line of an impressive string of hits from her three albums. “Undo It” is a kiss-off anthem for girls who’ve been done wrong by the guys they love. It’s a surprising single choice from Play On as it hits its stride in the wake of Carrie’s much-buzzed about wedding. But, although she is basking in wedded bliss right now with new hubby Mike Fisher, Carrie is no stranger to the downside of love gone wrong. She tells The Boot, “We’ve all had stupid relationships,” and admits that the message of the tune is harsh. Carrie explains that “Undo It” is “telling this person that you wish you’d never met them” and that “my life was so much better before you. And I wish I could take all of that back.”
Carrie co-wrote the tune with American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, songwriters Martin Frederiksen and Luke Laird, who is the man behind some previous Underwood hits - “Temporary Home,” “So Small” and “Last Name.” Kara is no stranger to the country songwriting community as she has visited Nashville to collaborate with the likes of Rascal Flatts, Dierks Bentley and The Band Perry. Kara tells Billboard that Carrie “was lovely and great to work with. We had really good chemistry.”
